Presentation of the project "HERITAGE. Digital. Odesa Opera House"

On September 30, 2025, students and teachers of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Musical and Performing Arts and Socio-Cultural Practices joined a significant event in the cultural life of the city by attending the presentation of the innovative project “HERITAGE. Digital. Odesa Opera House”. This project was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and is aimed at preserving the priceless artistic heritage and the theater building, which is currently at risk due to constant enemy shelling of the port infrastructure. The building of the Odesa National Opera was scanned in laser 3D format. Specialists from the Lviv Skeiron team conducted a laser 3D scan of more than 1,100 points of the theater building, including facades, balconies, stairs, and office premises. More than 4,000 high-quality images of interior details were also created for 3D modeling. Co-founder of Skeiron Andrii HRYVNYAK noted that in total the team took 9,000 photographs, as well as 1,200 panoramic shots with the smallest details and nooks and crannies of the opera house. Innovative digital content includes: 3D laser scanning of the theater building, 3D tour, digitized collection of the museum and exhibition complex of the Odesa National Opera. “The project demonstrates the strategic approach of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation to preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage in times of war, when the aggressor is trying to destroy Ukrainian identity through ruthless attacks on cultural objects. Creating a digital twin of the Odesa Opera House became an act of cultural resistance and a guarantee of preserving the architectural gem by the Black Sea for future generations, even if it is damaged by the occupiers,” the project creators noted.
The presentation of the project was attended by the Deputy General Director of the theater for main activities, Honored Artist of Ukraine Serhii MYULBERG, Assistant General Director for Grant Projects and International Programs Iryna VOLKANOVA, Director of the Department of Culture, International Cooperation and European Integration Ivan LIPTUGA, and Rector of the Odesa National Music Academy named after A. V. Nezhdanova Olena KHIL.
For students, attending the presentation of the innovative project “HERITAGE. Digital. Odesa Opera House” was not only an introduction to advanced technologies for preserving cultural heritage, but also stimulated their desire to take an active part in preserving and popularizing national cultural identity.
