My name is Janet Stulting, and I am a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine. I have been in Odessa since December 2011, and I teach English at the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, in the Institute of World Languages.  I have also organized an English Club at our university, and it meets every week.  Before I came to Ukraine, I taught English in China for two years.  In America, I was a lawyer for 30 years, but am now retired.  My hometown is Charlottesville, Virginia, but I currently live in Connecticut.  I have two grown children, a son and a daughter.

Natalya Pahomova-Vlasova, a teacher of the Faculty of Arts and Graphics, has been in China since September 2012. There she shares her teaching experience with teachers and students at the Three Gorges University.

During her stay in China, she organized an exhibition of her own and her students’ art work. This exhibition was greatly admired by the Chinese people.

As one of the most experienced teachers of our university, Natalya Pahomova-Vlasova instructs Chinese students not only in the European style of painting, but also in an appreciation of beauty, a love of different cultures, the esthetic perception of the world around them, assists them in developing the skills necessary to show the most subtle movements of the human soul on canvas.

Eight foreign postgraduate students of our university successfully defended their dissertation research in 2012.

Fu Xiaojing, a postgraduate student in the Department of Music and Choreography (candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, docent Rebrova E. E.), reports on the results of her dissertation research. The dissertation was defended on 11.01.2013.

University Open House Day was held on March 15, 2013, in the assembly hall of the “South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushynsky”. Amangeldiyeva Jennet and Zhou Cong (students in the Department of Foreign Languages) were interviewed by a television journalist. The students shared their impressions about their life in Ukraine and studying at our university

On March 21st, the “South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University
 named after K. D. Ushynsky” held a concert dedicated to the National Day of Spring and Observance of the New Year – Novruz. The audience plunged into festivities honoring the culture of the Turkmen people. The students from Turkmenistan described their country, their traditions of celebrating Novruz, their national costumes and their traditional cuisine. There was an overwhelming atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding in the auditorium.

The International Festival of Culture washeld on March 23, 2013, at the Three Gorges University (China). The purpose of this event was the presentation of the cultural and educational life of the world’s countries.

Our university was represented by Natalya Pakhomova-Vlasova, the Honored Artist of Ukraine, a teacher at the Institute of Arts. Natalya developed an exhibition that presented Ukraine, Odessa and our university. The presentation by Natalya Pakhomova-Vlasova was recognized as one of the best at the festival.
